Oberg Industries
Oberg provides manufacturing and technology solutions
that include product and progressive die
design, stamping, multi-axis machining,
grinding, reel-to-reel electroplating,
automated assembly, and consulting services.
Situation:
As Oberg became an active participant in global economy,
they needed to replace their older phone system. As a worldwide entity, they
wanted to have total voice coverage of their facilities showing the world a
corporate front. Oberg and American Telecom have been partnered for over 30
years. This strong relationship between the two companies has helped “assist us
in keeping abreast in technology without exceeding our budgetary guidelines.”
said Michael Sterba, Director of IT.
Client Experience:
American Telecom worked closely with Oberg’s internal IT
staff to tailor a hybrid TDM / VoIP solution that leveraged Oberg’s existing
cabling infrastructure and data networks with minimal reconfiguration. By
implementing an Iwatsu IP Campus network, users at all of Oberg’s facilities in
Pennsylvania, Arizona, Mexico and Costa Rica are now accessible by extension
dialing and internal voice paging. The old analog cabling infrastructure was
re-used to provide TDM stations to users, while inter-building and inter-campus
calling uses IP trunks to take advantage of the existing data network. Thus,
the Iwatsu system gives Oberg more capacity and flexibility – while reducing
monthly provider charges by eliminating costly dedicated circuits to provide
voice service. Oberg is currently evaluating the Iwatsu IP Softphone so that
remote users can be fully connected as well.
Results:
The new phone system has stabilized Oberg’s communication
ability with their remote employees, supplier and customer base. The ability to
do extension dialing and paging throughout all of Oberg’s facilities has broken
down barriers between operating locations. “The best part about American Telecom
is its people. Both office personnel and the technical staff are always willing
to assist you. Not only do they work with you, their out-of-the-box thinking
has assisted us in other areas.”
